WHAT IS A CRAWL SPACE ENCAPSULATION?
A crawl space encapsulation includes a full crawl space seal (vents, foundation line, other openings), waterproof wall insulation and a heavy-duty vapor barrier. All of our vapor barriers are made in the USA and are sealed along every seam with vapor bond adhesive.
In our crawl space encapsulations all crawl space vents, foundation lines and penetration points are sealed. Next a heavy-duty vapor barrier is installed covering 100% of the crawl space floor and wrapped up the foundation walls. Then waterproof wall insulation is installed along the interior foundation wall. Lastly, bonding tape is used to seal everything together. A dehumidifier is also installed to circulate and keep the crawl space air clean and humid free. This is used to prevent moisture from building up in the crawl space.
An encapsulated crawl space protects a home from excess moisture that can cause damage. The dehumidifier is used to help to regulate wood moisture and circulate the crawl space air to prevent mold growth and wood rot. At Carolina Casa, our specialty is encapsulated crawl spaces.
Insul-Barrier Wall Insulation
When you insulate the foundation walls, insulating the floor joists is unnecessary, so you do not need to worry about doing both. Fiberglass or cellulose insulation between floor joists often becomes damaged by pests or built-up moisture over time. Replacing it is expensive, which is why we offer insul-barrier wall insulation. It is a long-term crawl space insulation solution. It is entirely waterproof, so it can be easily dried, unlike fiberglass if it ever gets wet from a flood or a leak.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Decreased energy costs
Prolonged HVAC system life
Reduced humidity levels
Increased home value
Crawl space moisture can make a home an unhealthy, smelly environment that can be structurally unsound if left alone. A crawl space encapsulation creates an insulated foundation and seals a home from moisture and outside air, helping to regulate temperatures indoors more efficiently. Encapsulating your crawl space will extend the life of a home and protect it from damage from excess humidity.
EXCESS MOISTURE
Attracts pests
Promotes mold and mildew growth
Leads to wood rot and cupping floorboards
Creates a hot humid feeling inside
